My cat is suddenly croaking instead of miewing what could it be???

Is your cat a long haired or short haired?

Because long haired cats often l**k often.

Does your cat l**k its fur?

It's most likely to be quite a small Hair ball stuck in its throat.

But don't get worried, just consult a vet and tell them about what is happening and ask them to check her throat. Also, see what the vet thinks.

Cats can develop laryngitis.  A previous cat of mine did because she was hissing non-stop at a stray cat that kept coming into our garden.  After a short course of antibiotics from the vet her voice was back to normal.
