Question:

My cat is too skinny!

I have three cats, and while two of them are at a healthy weight, my one cat is very skinny. All of her bones you can easily feel, although not see through her long fur (she is a ragdoll). All of my cats are on the same eating schedual, with IAMS original food left in a bowl in the kitchen all day long.

Any suggestions on how to get her to eat?

  1. GIVE HER SOME REAL MEAT AS LONG AS IT COOKED LIKE CHICKEN LIVERS   AND CANNED TUNA    GIVER MILK TO  SHE WILL PUT ON THE POUNDS.

  2. I have heard people say that before, listen to me TAKE IT TO THE VET!!!!

your cat may be in SERIOUS DANGER, if it isn't GO THERE just in case its aways the right thing to do YOU REMEMBER THAT !!!!!

Good luck..... Katgirl ......( why do you think I chose that name?.... I simply know everything about cats and i just love them!!!!)

  3. Try various cat foods. She may not like or is sick of the IAMS food. Try different treats or mixing wet and dry food together. She may just be a picky eater. If she is or gets dangerously underweight then take her to the vet. The vet will give her a vitamin shot that will help stimulate appitite. It may just be helpful to get her the shot before you buy tons of different foods. Good luck.

  4. I would have her checked- skinny is not good- of course some of them are thinner- but skinny is different.  Is she older.  Is she drinking alot? Urinating alot?  Are her gums white or a nice pink?   Is she hydrated? You can tell if you pull the fur up on the back of her neck and it goes down immediately than she is hydrated- if it kinda sticks and goes down slowly - get her to the vet.  Also you should check out info on the web about feeding your cats grains.  They are obligate carnivors and they do not have the enzymes to break down grains -it is soooo bad for them.

  5. feed her kitten food, it will help her put weight on. you can also buy milk replacement for kittens and pour some over her food everyday (or just let her l**k it out of a bowl), that should help her put on the weight too. just dont feed her canned food, its really hard on their teeth. good luck : ]

  6. You may need to feed her in another room. Sounds like the other cats are getting the bulk of the food. Also, have you checked her teeth recently? My Persian would eat less because of tooth infections, which I could not see, but my vet would discover in cracked teeth under x-ray.

Also, since its a rag doll, you might check to see if she has had hairballs. They won't hurt her, but they can upset the stomach, making her not want to eat as much.

A call to the vet and or a quick check up should rule out the medical reasons, then you can work on the psyche and other problems.
