Question:

My cat is very skittish, will she grow out of it?

I just got a cat about two months ago, when I got her she was already at least 6 months old. So she isn't a baby.

Rumpleteazer will sleep next to me, and let me pet her, but when I walk up to her or reach out, she'll flinch or try to run away.

My cat has progressed so much since I've gotten her.

My question is, will she continue to get more comfortable with me, or do I have a scaredy cat on my hands?

Thank You!

  1. yes she will keep getting better and better as she learns to trust you. probably her previous owner (because you got her so old) hurt her and made her wary of humans. you seem like a really gentle owner which is perfect to a cat like that. ;D

  2. She'll get better the longer you have her as long as you are nice and quiet to her. If you start being mean, then she'll stay skittish.

  3. my guess is she will grow out of it as time passes by and she feels more comfurtable around the family.  It's scary entering a new home.  However, when people come over, she may still run from them or hide while they are in the house, but i'm almost positive that with time she'll only be skittish towards strangers and will fell more comfurtable and relaxed as she satys a her new home for a while.

  4. You may just have a skittish cat and you may just have to have a lot of patience.  My Maine Coon, Samson will sleep with me, follow me around the house, chirp at me - but will run away the next minute.  I got him when he was 4, he's 6 now and still skittering.  Just love your cat during the quiet cuddle times, and laugh at the skittish ones.  Good luck!!

  5. She'll become less and less skittish the more you show her calm non-threatening love.

Do not lunge at her or make sudden movements and always gently stroke and whisper to her.

    It worked for my Baylee.

  6. She will probably get used to you, but will be skittish around others for the rest of her life. They have medication that will calm her down.
