Question:

My cat keeps attacking me?

My cat (one year old) keeps attacking my feet. He grabs my leg with his paws then starts biting, and when I push him off (since it hurts), he keeps doing it. Sometimes it's when I'm petting him, and though he is purring he'll try to bite me and I'll stop, but then he'll attack. Last time he did it (earlier today) he felt bad after and started rubbing against my legs then he bit my ankle twice and started attacking yet again. He only does this when we're alone, either late at night (I stay up later than the rest of my family), or when I'm home alone, and he only does it to me. Why is he doing this and how can I stop it?

  1. Sounds like your cat needs some new toys.  Get him something big he can jump on and kick with his back feet.  Or another cat to play with.

  2. This may be nothing but a friend's cat was really nice and then suddenly attacked people it was very random. Turned out he had  a tumour which caused these sudden changes in behaviour. Maybe go see the vet.

  3. Most likely he'd stop if he had to scrape himself off the wall with a putty knife a couple times after doing it.

  4. Disciplining a young kitten may be necessary, but harsh punishment should be avoided. Hand clapping, and using shaker cans or horns can be intimidating enough to inhibit undesirable behavior. Spray bottles are often effective as well.

  5. well my cat is that age to and he does it they do it because they like moving things and even if your feet are not moving he thinks it is because we have 10 small toes witch he thinks is something else but one way to stop it is to hold him when your sitting get on to him but don't hit him that never solves anything

    You welcome!!!!

  6. Well I had a kitten that did that. All you need To do is give him some catnip and while he is eating that try to lift him by the extra fur on their neck. Hold it back and I know this sounds mean, but put him in a closet for about an hour. Then h**l be all nice and sweet. Email me if it doesnt work.

  7. I got told by a cat behaviourist that the reason my cat got funny with me is because he gets freaked out by the amount of love i was giving him as he was moved from pillar to post for 4 days before I got him, He's fine now but that may be why if you've only had him a little while

  8. You need to take a step backwards and stop giving him the opportunity to do it.   If he is only doing it at night, it could be that he has become bored throughout the day.  Give him plenty of outlets for his energy - things to climb and chase (hide some dry food in wrapped up paper so he has to fight to get it out), cat nip on toys, a water fountain to play around with.   Play with him using only rod toys and never your hands as this will only encourage rough behaviour and he will think that hands are ok to attack.  It may be that he was taken too young from his mother and did not learn what was acceptable behaviour.  When he starts to get rough you should leave him alone and try not to react to being bitten since this will just reinforce attention seeking behaviour.  When he bites, try to keep still, and just walk away - don't shout, push him off or call his name. When he plays well, and only well,  throw down some treats for him.  Don't play for too long as some cats become over-stimulated - keep your stroking to a minimum (little and often is better than a load all in one go).  If you feel more confident, wear some thick gloves so that if he does bite you, you will not react in the way that he wants - usually over time they get bored and stop doing it.

He is still young and could well grow out of this stage but he needs to learn from you what is and what is not acceptable.
