i have a male cat buzz. he has always used the litterbox. i got a new male kitten about 2 1/2 months ago and shortly after i brought him home buzz started pooping on the floor, i tired to keep the box extra cleaning i've cleaning it out like twice a day now, i use the feline pine, i've tired getting another box, so now there's two litterboxes, i've tired moving one box so they don't have the litterboxes so close together, i did switch the food when i brought the second kitten in, i switch from adult food to kitten food but buzz loves it. and he doesn't have diarrhea, he doesn't seem to be having difficulty when he goes, although ever since i switched to the kitten food his poops have been bigger than i have ever seen, like the size of a young adult person! and to top it all off it smells so bad like he can clear out the whole back side of my apartment. but besides it being huge and smelling it seems to be normal p**p. p.s.buzz and woody are best buddies they love each other. get along

  1. my cat always poops on the floor. he misses the liter box. i thought up a great idea. put walmart sacks in the liter box and under the liter box. it may help. it helped me a whole lot.

  2. If Buzz is an adult cat he needs adult cat food.  Kitten food is formulated for kittens' needs, and adult cat food is formulated for adult cats' needs.  Look for an adult food that's for Buzz's age, and then separate Buzz and Woody when you feed them so they each eat the proper food.

Also, the general rule of thumb when there are multiple cats in the same household is to have 1 litter pan per cat, plus one extra, so you should have 3 litter pans in you place.  And keep them scooped out (1-2 times per day).

Try those and see if that fixes his pooping on the floor.  If after about a week that doesn't help, talk with your vet.

  3. I have two theories:

    1.  He is pissed at you.

    2.  Buzz cannot stand another scent besides his own in the litterbox.  Does the new cat go in both boxes? Buzz just may be very sensitive that way.  Try keeping the litterboxes far away from one another and reinforce where the cats should go.  Praising when they go can help, too.
