  1. Some cats just prefer to spend more time outside.  Don't try to keep him inside all the time because then he'll start to resent it.  And don't worry about him not coming back, animals know where their homes are.

When my family moved our cat was gone for 2-3 days just so she could check out the area but when she came back she was completely fine and only spent a few hours at a time away from home.  (Plus she was fine with food because she hunted)

  2. Ive had a cat for 3 years and she has been going outside since she was a kitten and has never ran away

you probably what her to get used to your house and then let it out with a leash and see how it reacts to it if it runs back near the door it will probobly not want to leave the house anymore

  3. Because it is so dangerous for indoor cats to run out of open doors you must do everything you can to make the area around the door unpleasant. Especially when the door gets opened.

The way I have trained my cats is simple but effective. I take the good old spray-bottle of water outside. Then I "come home" and open the door a little and spray the cat directly in the face with the water. They run away. I go back out. Repeat several times until you notice the cat standing several feet away from the door. Success!

Now when leaving the apartment I use a loosely rolled up newspaper to convince the cat that the door area is unpleasant. When I open the door to leave and the cat makes a bee-line for the door I whack it with the newspaper one time and away it goes! This doesn't hurt the cat and is the best thing you can do to condition the cat that the door area is not friendly.

It may take a few days of repeated conditioning to convince Fluffy that the door is an unpleasant place for a cat, but it must be done. After that conditioning experience you will have a lifetime of comfortable living with your cat not running out the door.

BTW it is good if you can get different members of the family to use the spray bottle as they enter the house. This way the cat never knows who is going to douse him, he just stays away.

It works and it has saved me many hours of looking outdoors for an escaped indoor kitty. Good luck!

  4. get him fixed... sounds like he's lookin' for a girlfriend.

  5. don't worry trust God

  6. You need to stop this behavior. I lost my kitty earlier this year because she got out...she came home all beat up, I have no idea what happened to her but she was traumatized and died the next day. I have solved this problem with other cats by putting coins in a coke can and waiting for them to sneak out...throw it at them..the noise scares the heck out of them. Well most of them. Boots was determined and finally got her way. Her brother, Squirt, is still alive and well and only peaks out an open door.

  7. I had a deaf (and REALLY clumsy) cat for many years who, obviously, needed to stay inside, not that he wanted to, though.  The less a cat goes outside, the more uncomfortable it is out there.  The deaf cat got out once a year, or so, and we could find him by following fence lines - he was so insecure, out there, he'd hug one side of this new "maze".

To keep him from bolting, try having a squirt bottle (or gun) near the door - if he gets near it, blast him, but MAKE SURE HE DOESN"T SEE YOU DOING IT - it's important for him to associate the water with the door, not you.

We've also sued one of those toddler fences which a cat can easily hurdle, but has worked as a deterrent for three out of four cats.

  8. He may be looking to socialize. If you can, try leash training him and take him for walks and try harder not to let him out.

  9. That's what happens with my cat too. Well, he likes to sneak out but we always go out and chase him back inside. The only option unfortunately is really just to not let that happen. You can't let him slip out, go out the door quickly and dont leave it open. If necessary, put one of those baby gates blocking the door when you leave because youre right it is dangerous for an indoor cat to get and be outside

  10. don't let him out.

  11. my cat used to do this all the time but she always came back so don't worry.

P.S. my cat used to eat the grass then puke it up in the house so keep a close eye out for that

  12. leash

  13.    I suggest  you get him a proper cat harness and let him wear it inside the house till he gets use to it. After he has accepted the harness get that plastic coated wire with the two clips on each end, clip one end on the top of his harness the other on your clothes line and take him outside and let him be out there for awhile.

That way he will know that at a certain time he gets to go outside and perhaps will not need to make a run for the door.

The other option is get a squirt bottle and put it on stream, when he heads for the door blast him with the water,  and say no!!

This method works well on kittens and drapes too, except i don't say a word when i squirt them when they go near my sheers, the cat starts to think the sheers are spraying him not me.

My cats now walk 2 feet away from all curtains in my home, and everybody is happy  :)

  14. My Cat used to do the same thing, until my neighbors beat him :(

but what you should do is, try and make sure he's out of the room when you open the door, or hold him as your opening the door, and toss him in the house. Thats what i usually do. but if you have company over, you should put him in another room, a bathroom or bedroom maybe? and just keep the door closed so he doesnt get out.

  15. Give it milk or w/e it wants to make it feel better about stayng in the house..its also possible it has kittens, follow it when it leaves and find out! i did once when i was little and in fact it did have kittens.
