My cat likes to bite me...

Question

at first my cat would chase me when i went up the stairs and bite at my ankles, nearly tripping me. now he'll run after me anywhere in the house and "attack" me. sometimes i'll just be standing there doing something and he'll start biting at my ankles. he's 2 years old, so maybe he just wants attention? he's in good health and i think we all play with him and pet him. any suggestions as to why he's doing this and to maybe get him to cut back on it? i don't want him to continue this habit when he grows older. thanks.

omg my cat does the same thing!!!!! i would try playing with ur cat more often cuz he seems 2 have a lot of energy......also dont run away from him when hes "attacking" you because this will just make him think that ur playing with him & he will run after you.....hope i helped!!

our kitty does that! but its because she just learned how to catch prey and stuff.

He's doing it because you're running from him!  First, all cats have a deep "chase" instinct....if something runs they will chase it and bite it.  All cats are like this.  Second, by making you the prey, your cat has decided it's more dominant than you and can do whatever it wants.

Next time, just stop and stand your ground.  Don't jump or move back or show fear when he bites your ankles, just peel him off, push him away, and maintain eye contact.  You'll be re-asserting your dominance and he'll soon get it.  Might cost you a few scratches on the ankles, but you need to set the boundaries.

Finally, make sure he has lots of cats toys to play with instead of you!

each time he does it step away and ignore him. If he still does it after a while, get a spray bottle and fill it with water and spray him each time he does it (this doesn't hurt the cat, it just reminds them not to do it) You could also try wearing boots in the house for a bit.
