My cat never purs , and why is that?

ok my cats dose pur sometimes but not like normal cats do and now he doesn't pur at all. is it because i spend to much time with him or something else and also my cat doesn't really get along with other people that come in to my house , he will hiss or try to bite at who ever come in in our but not at us . i just want to know why?????

I have a cat too that doesn't purr. We call him "Wheezer" because he doesn't make much of any sound at all, although he tries. I guess he does purr, sort of, but it can barely be heard and it sounds weird. I asked my friend who is a vet about it and she said that it was very common for a cat to not be able to purr well and to not worry about it. Of course our cat is healthy in every other way. I suppose an unhealthy cat could have medical reasons for their purring difficulties.

I called my (stray) cat Grumpy because she didn't purr when she first decided to move in with me.  She is a bit better now and manages purring first thing in the morning when she lies on me in bed for a cuddle.  Occasionally she surprises me and purrs spontaneously when she is near me.  Most of the time I think she does it very quietly.  Try gently touching his throat next time he is on your lap.  If you can feel a small vibration, chances are that he is just being very quietly content.  Mine took quite a few months before she purred in my presence.  I have yet to hear mine purr with other people, mind you, we spend most of out time alone.

How long have u had ur cat because it is very common for cats to take some time to adjust  new people ,And most cats r kinda shy so it may take a while 4 him to get used to visitors.

My cat purrs when he eats, when he says hello, when he cuddles, when he gets petted, even when he plays.

My husband's cat only purrs if she's cuddling, getting petted, and is REALLY overwhelmed with happiness.

Really, your question is kind of like asking "Some humans never sing, and why is that?"
