I have a male cat about 5 months old and recently he has started panting after he plays for a short period of time. He is not over weight. I have 3 older cats that never have had this problem. What could be wrong with him?

  1. Get him to your vet for radiographs to check for asthma. Feline asthma can be treated with a regular inhaler like adults use and a product called Feline Breath Easy that attaches to the inhaler and covers the cats whole face so you are sure they get all the medicine they need. We also have a couple of feline asthma patients who get monthly steriod shots that help them as well. Check with your vet and let us know! Good luck!

  2. Asthma, get him to the vet IMMEDIATLY

  3. Well he is out of breath. Have you increased his level of activity greatly over the last few days? Was he just "out of shape?"

It is unusual for such a young cat to be panting. I hope he doesn't have asthma or a heart condition. Maybe it's time to take him in for a well-kitten exam at the vet?
