i have a black cat named salem who loves to play and play. he will start running around the house like a cheetah knocking stuff down and running into things. so i have some toys for him and i play with him but he says its not enough. and when i leave him in the house while im outside or at a neighbors he cries even when their are other people in the house with him hes a really good but gets bored easy. so i got him a friend, a little boy kitten. well salem loves him but he plays to rough and the kitten doesnt like salem he hisses and screams when salem tries to play with him. salem bites really hard and grabs him with his nails like hugging the kitten and not letting go. and he chases him and just drives everyone nuts. i just want them to play nice any advice?

  1. Every time he plays rough, remove him from the room. Cats are very social animals and hate being alone. Leave him there for about ten minutes and then let him out again. Sounds like he is really attached so you. So, removing him from the room you're in when he's rough will give him a shock to pay a little more attention.

  2. After a week they should be playing.  Some cats will hiss regardless of intentions.  The main thing to look out for is whether or not the nails are out during play.  Cats that are simply playing will jab with nails in so as not to cause damage.  I have 4 and one is bread by bob.  I just introduced (3 days ago) a new kitten.  At first they seemed hostile toward eachother so i trimmed the bob's nails.  On the third day i woke to see them lying together and sleeping.  You just have to give them thier time to work out the order of things.  You can play it as safe as possible by clipping the more aggressive cats nails.  Hopefully, in the end, everything works out.  Im sure there are  incompatibilities out there but that will take a little time to set straight.

  3. I had the same problem.  My first cat was the runt of her litter and grew up with a litter 2 weeks older so she had to learn to play rough to keep from getting beat up.  She was lonely so I got a kitten but she was playing too rough with him.  When she got too rough I told her, "No, too rough," and put her in another room for several minutes.  When she was playing ok, I praised her.  After about a day and a half she figured it out and was gentler.

  4. i have a cat aswell and i would separate them- put them in different parts of your house and every other day let them go together if the start

to fight then just seperate them again if this doesnt work or one gets hurt (like my cat) then take them to the vet to ask for advice

                                     hope this helps bye

  5. try lettin him out side?

also when i got my kitten at 9 weeks , my older kitten molly (10months) would play REALLY rough

at first baby cat didnt like it but now he is getting alot bigger (nearly 5 months) he is playing just as rough., he will grow into you other cat =] just watch them for the moment

  6. If he is fairly young, he will probably grow out of it. My cat did at about 5-6 years of age :p.

The kitten will get used to it, but its best to supervise play, discourage rough play and encourage good behavior. Make sure that you give your new kitten heeps of positive reinforcement around the older cat aswell.

  7. I have been told that when there is an adult cat in the house, you should get a kitten that is at least  four months old.  Younger than that, and they cannot defend themselves.  I have followed that advice and it has worked well for me a couple of times.

If the young one is under four months, I suggest that you separate the cats until the young one is old enough.

There is a lot on the Internet about how to introduce a new cat: http://www.google.com/search?q=introduci...
