Question:

My cat pretty much lives in my bedroom with me...how can I cut down on the cat hair EVERYWHERE?

My cat's a long-haired Maine coon cat, and most of the time, he lives in my bedroom with me. He's out of it every day to exercise and such, but when I'm at school and in bed, he's in my room with me with the door closed (his litter box & everything is in here too). My mom honestly hates having him in the kitchen. Anyway...I bathe him (which he surprisingly enjoys) twice a month, and groom him every day, but there's so much cat hair everywhere! It's annoying to have to lint roll everything everyday, and even when my clothes come out of the washer/dryer, they're still hairy! I love my cat, but it's annoying! Any suggestions on how to cut down on the hair?

  1. get a good shed x brush

  2. I have to credit the furminator also. www.furminator.com . It is a little pricey but trust me, it is completely worth it. You will probably get a whole bag full of hair from your Maine coon.

I have one and it works wonders on my two cats. You will save a ton of money rather than taking him to the groomers also.

Use the furminator, and continue to bathe him. Also, feeding your cat a premium cat food diet will reduce shedding (and pooping!) since it is healthier for them, and they will feel healthier also.

    Good luck!

  3. I recently purchased the "Furminator" at Petco and it really helps a lot.  I went into the groom shop first and asked them what they use and this is what they told me to buy.  It did cost $40, but I think it's well worth it.  I noticed yesterday where you can order it from drugstore.com and even with s&h it's not as much as at Petco, so you might want to check that out.  You will need to keep up your daily grooming, of course.  This is a shedding tool and removes the undercoat as well as the top hair.   Good luck!

  4. I would highly suggest getting a product called the furminator. It is a de-shed treatment consisting of a shampoo, conditioner and a undercoat removal tool.

The shampoo and conditioner sit on the pet for several minutes each and then the tool is used to remove excess undercoat. This will not prevent your cat from leaving hair about and shedding but it will greatly reduce the amount of shedding.  We use this product as a shed-less treatment we offer at our salon. I would recommend it to anyone.

  5. cats are constantly shedding. whether its their winter coat for a summer coat or vise versa. long hair cats are hard to take care of, i agree with you. a good way to keep cat hair off of your stuff is to shave it. lmao just kidding! try to close your door and move the litter box some where else. (just a thought)
