Question:

My cat seems to be gagging....Help, urgent.

My cat went outside yesterday morning and just came back today at 5am in the morning. He's not allowed to go out because he'll eat stuff outside and get stones. Then he'll be on antibiotics for two weeks and it'll help him. He's on C/D food from petsmart, and he's had a history of stones in his bladder.

But he came back, all skinny, with some bites in his ears and it seems like he's gagging. Like throwing his head forward and making an AGH sound.

Should I take him to the vet asap?

  1. Hello

bladder stones you mean? well i dont think that has anything 2 do whit ths, its probably just a hair ball, but if its worse than it looks call the 24 hour vet asap and ask for advise.

    hopeihelpedxoxo:o)

  2. yes, i would reccomend that you take hime to the vet-he was probably involved in a fight with another cat or maybe eaten something poisonous.

firstly, clean him up, and give hime plenty of foods, water and nutrients

wait for a couple of hours- if the gaging increases, TAKE HIM TO THE VETS!if you dont do something, there may be a possibility that he may not survive

but if it subsides, just take special care of him, and also keep out a close eye for him

hope this helps and hope your cat is okay!!!

  3. Take it to the vets as soon as possible it could be just a furball or a phase its going through but best to get it checked out.

  4. Go to the vet - he may have swallowed something that stuck in his throat, thuogh hopefully it is a large hairball.  Please make the effort to make him an inside cat; a cat with a history of stones doesn't need to be outside.

  5. It would probably be a good idea. It sounds like he's been fighting and he could have been injured or he may have been poisoned.

  6. I can not help you, nor can anyone else on this forum. The only person who can help you is the VET. TAKE YOUR CAT TO THE VET ASAP!!!

  7. get him to the vet and fast or im afraid ur cat might lose a life like mine did sadly my cat lost his last

  8. Get him to a vet.  Maybe he ate or drank something he shouldn't.  Maybe he's just gotten himself some kind of liver, kidney or urinary issue.  A vet will be able to help you.  Poor guy, I feel terrible for you both.

I've had two cats go through very similar situations, both had ingested things they should not.  Cat number 1 (Skittles) ate some rubber bands.  Cat number 2 (Mojo) drank antifreeze.  I delayed on taking Skittles to the vet by almost a week, but he still made a full recovery after a very expensive surgery.  Mojo I took to an emergency clinic because it was clear he was in distress.  He died from the antifreeze poisoning and I spent a fortune at the emergency clinic trying to save the poor guys life.  Now all my cats are indoor only, even though they clearly long to go outside.  (I give them short supervised time outdoors).

The early symptoms of antifreeze poisoning are that they seem a little bit off like they are drunk, very wobbly and have signs of abdomenal pain. They may drink a lot the first day as they have increased thirst, then later on seem lethargic, depressed, weak, and dehydrated. They may develop diarrhea, mouth ulcers, rapid breathing and seizures. Their kidneys are often painful and swollen when you touch their abdomens.  It is bad news if it's poisoning and the sooner you get him to the doc the better.
