My cat sounds like she has a stuffed nose...?

This might sound weird, but my 3 month old kitten makes a whistling sound when she breathes -- kinda like people do when they have a stuffy nose. Is this bad? Should I take her to the vet?

  1. Yes take her but check for other symptons like

                    + SNEEZING

                    + NASAL DISCHARGE

                    + RUNNY EYES

                    + COUGH

                    + ORAL OR NASAL ULCERS

                    + SNIFFLES

                    + FEVER

                    + HOARSE VOICE

                    + OR ANY COMBINATION THEROF

If she has any of these then it could be an Upper Respiratory

  2. Hi,

It could be an upper respiratory infection like what the above contributor suggested. But the sound you mentioned sounds like wheezing and it is mostly associated with feline asthma. This is a very serious condition if not treated early with medications. If your cat has labored breathing, difficulty inhaling and exhaling, this indicates a serious condition and you must take her to the vet immediately. Please do not ever hesitate when it comes to taking her to get checked out. The sooner her condition is diagnosed and treatment the better chance she has at a speedier recovery. If she has Feline Asthma, it can be bring under control with medication, but you need to act fast.
