I woke up at 2am to my cat sneezing constantly for like 15 minutes. Also she keeps l*****g her mouth like she has something in her throat but she won't let me look in her mouth or even hold her. I found a little larvae on the water dish which she was sneezing by and now I'm really freaked out! Could there be something serious wrong with my cat?

  1. It's tough to say without knowing what the insect is that is in the larvae stage.  If you are concerned, can you put the water from the cat's dish (with the larvae) in a ziplock baggie and take it in with the cat to the vet in the morning?

It's quite possible though that your cat just has an upper respiratory infection.  I wouldn't worry about the larvae unless someone else knows how that could be a problem.

  2. Maybe she is allergic to something in your house or she has got cold.

    Take her to the vet

  3. If it were my cat, I would think back and see if I used any different soap on clothing or softeners or have you changed the litter brand? Or maybe he/she has an upper respiratory problem.. Only it sounds more like he is allergic to something that maybe you changed and are not really aware of it. Check that out, maybe it's something on you perfume, hairspray, it could be a million different things but it is something NEW..That is what I think.

One other thing, Make sure your cat/cats have Aluminum water dishes, My  older cat got an infection under his chin from a regular water dish, Now he is fine and all three have the same kind of dishes.

    Good Luck

  4. She could have URI, upper respiratory infection or a bad cold. If URI is left left unattended it can be fatal. You really should get her checked out as soon as you can. If she does have URI the doctor can give her antibiotics to help her get rid of it. Make sure she has plenty of fresh drinking water as she will need it so she won't dehydrate.  As far as the larvae on the edge of her water bowl. I don't really see any cause for alarm. Being it's summer time it could really be from any kind of bug.
