Hi,

I have a lovely one and a half year old female tabby that I've raised since she was two months old. Shes always been shy and doesn't let anyone other than me pick her up. Well she was lying on my chair and I moved to pick her up and put her on the rug . As soon as my hands touched her she went wild, snarled and scratched up my hand with both paws. She scratched my hand pretty badly, it was bleeding in several places. I am totally confused. She is very gentle and has never done anything of the sort before. Could it be that she's not well or is coming down with something? I'm worried, please advise. Thanks.

Regards,

Khan

  1. Yeah you might consider the vet. I'd give it a couple of days if she seems to get worst then denfinetly vet. However she could be telling you she's not happy try buying a new toy every other week and play with her with the new toy.

  2. maybe she was having a bad dream and didnt' know who was picking her up.

  3. Cats usually react like that when scared or in pain.

She may have been soundly trapped in a nightmare that you woke her from or she could be in physical pain. Try gently probing the area and see if she reacts similarly. Look and see (if she will let you) whether or not she has any cuts or abrasions where you touched her.  If she does, call you vet and see how to treat it.  She may need shots if something cut or bit her.

If there is nothing on the skin, then there may be something wrong internally and you should definitely take her to the vet.

Good luck and I am glad you know enough not to be mad at her.

  4. Has she been spayed?  Is she an out door cat?  It could be that she's pregnant or she may have some other malady.  Or is there something different about her environment?  Do you have a new pet?  It could be anything.  But if you're not sure, take her to a vet.  Unless you did take her to a vet and she had some injections or some other type of needles stuck in her.  Perhaps the area is sore and you picked her up the wrong way, or she may have hurt herself outside.  It could be any number of things.

  5. I would definitely have the vet look her over.

  6. You may have touched her in a spot that she doesn't like being touched in, but if that behavior continues, you should take her to a vet.

  7. your cat may have a sore spot were ever place you tried to pick her up that is my cats way of telling me when she has a sore spot cats can get them allot just try to relax her.
