My cat too old for castration?

My cat is around 4 years old, and yes, still not castrated.

But it is really an outside cat, he is never in. so sometimes he doesn't show up. We just feed and play with him really...

Is it worth castrating him? Isn't the bill goining to be too high now? Isn't he too old?

  1. up too the vet, but as long as he his healthy, i dont believe they are ever too old.

castration will stop more unwanted kittens

  2. You should take him to be neutered because he's contributing to the enormous level of homeless kittens.  That is pretty much the only reason that it needs to be done.

  3. a cat is never to old

  4. He's nowhere near too old to be neutered, he's only four. Please get him fixed, it'll be healthier for him and he won't be contributing to the pet overpopulation anymore.

  5. A cat is never too old to be neutered and an outside cat needs neutering more than any as they contribute immensely to creating dozens of feral kittens and cats per year who end up having a very short and unhealthy life though infected bites and scratches through fights for territory and females and contraction and spreading of deadly feline viruses such as cat aids and cat flu as feral cats do not get vaccinated against these diseases.

I would definitely have your kitty neutered as it will stop him from roaming as far as entire males do and he'll make a much more placid and happier pet for you, whether he remains an outside kitty, inside/outside kitty or inside only kitty.

The cost of neutering a cat, whether 6 months old or 6 years old remains the same and prices vary from $17 - $30 depending on the vet.

Low cost or free neutering is available in the US. Please see the links below for help and info -

Also, here is a site that lists all free spay/neuter clinics in the US and some in Canada alphabetically state by state (please ignore the actual site that lists it but it's speuter listing is priceless for info) -

All the best and good luck with your kitty's neutering.

  6. WHAT! how iresponsible of you! It's people like YOU that contribute to the millions of deaths of cats and kittens in shelters... YES neuter your d**n cat!.. he doesn't come home because he's busy getting other cats pregnant!... What a moron you are!

  7. .he's not too old ,but it may not change his behaviors. however it may help stop unwanted kittens  being born ,always a good thing. the bill should be the same as is for a kitten.it's the same operation. he won't be happy for a while ,keep him inside and make a different bond with him. good luck

  8. No not too old.

Yes if you neuter him he will live longer and not stray so much.  He will stay around home more.

There isn't a difference except for his weight... they give meds/ anesthesia according to weight... but usually they just have a scale according to age.

GOOD FOR YOU HAVING YOUR CAT NEUTERED. (2 thumbs up)

  9. definitely worth it. You do not want a fully grown tom cat roaming the neighborhood. The cost should still be the same as it would for a cat at any other age.

  10. It is never to late to neuter a cat unless he is so old that his body can not handle the anesthesia. It is up to your vet to determine the health of your cat and it is better that he is neutered because even if you cant smell it yet, he may be spraying all over your property. Given the right wind conditions, the scent can enter your house and can be so putrid that you may not be able to handle it.

Also, getting him neutered will curb fighting to an extent. I am sure you don't wanna come home one day and see him half dead with scratches and bites all over his body.

    Good Luck!

  11. it shouldnt matter how old your cat is, the bill shouldnt be any higher. he is not to old. but if he is an outside cat the only reason to get him neutured would be population control.
