I have a 42 inch flat screen tv, and I've been watching the Olympics (totally unrelated but just wanted to throw that in there! Go USA!). My cat apparently is as big of a fan as me and she's been sitting very close to the tv and watching. And I mean like .. nose to the screen. Is this bad for her eyes? She seems to like the movement that she sees, and I feel bad when I make her move because it looks like she's having a good time.

  1. whenever i go to my friend's house, his cat is watching tv as well. i almost never see it doing anything else. but it is a perfectly normal cat, doesn't have any problems or anything, and doesn't show any signs of vision/eye damage. i'd say that it's probably fine.

  2. We had a wonderful tuxedo cat that passed away from old age last year and for all of his 10 years of life he enjoyed watching television.

He especially liked the Disney children's show "Bear In The Big Blue House".  Shadow was his favorite character and he'd smack and paw at the television the entire time that character was on the screen.  I used to set a chair in front of the television so he could watch.

  3. I thought it was common knowledge that it's bad for OUR eyes watching tv that close, we wouldn't allow our kids to do it.

Since most most modern conveniences have down sides to our health in some way shape or form with side effects later on in life,I wouldn't let her do it, at least not that close,or at the very least not that long per day.

And everyone that says it doesn't hurt there cats eyes, how do they really know, I'm sure their cats aren't cuddling up to them saying "You know I've been having the worst splitting headaches lately can't figure out why...."

  4. my cats all watch tv as well.  it wont hurt hurt for her to watch the tv, as long as she does'nt become a couch potato. lol!  dont worry about it.  i love to watch my cats when they are watching the tv.  it is so funny.

  5. when i was a kid my kitten(now an adult cat)loved to watch cartoons with me.mostly spongebob, dexter's laboratory and the powerpuff girls

  6. Sounds like your tv is placed low enough for her to be up close.

She will move away if it make her uncomfortable.

If the programmes are boring from a feline's point of view, she won't be watching that's for sure!

  7. I wouldn't worry. (Yay! Go USA) Fight! Haa. Well like I was saying, I wouldn't worry too much. Cats eye's are made like ours but a bit stronger. Which makes it better. My cat watches TV sometimes. Doesn't hurt his eyes.

    Much luck!-

  8. I think it depends on the Olympic event.  Swimming can be dangerous, but track and field is probably harmless.  haha  Sorry.  Couldn't resist.

  9. Lol. My cat does this too.  I really think it is fine...if the movement on the screen starts to bother her, she will move back.  Let her watch it...she should be completely fine.
