I wrote earlier today about a problem I was having with fleas. I thought maybe my cats behavior was related to that problem. For the last week my 8 month old cat will not use the litter box. Instead she pees and poops on my bed. I have rubbed her nose in it, gave her a nice pat on the butt, and put her in the litter box. She immediately jumps out it. Any suggestions that would help This is getting beyond annoying..

  1. well maybe the fact that she has flees makes it so she is in pain or distress when cats are in pain or distress they tend to pee elsewhere because all their focus is on their pain, i would suggest taking her to the litterbox every hour and if you see her jump up on your bed immediatly bring her to her litterbox and force her to go in there and keep doing what you're doing when she does pee on your bed

  2. Never rub her nose in it!!  She doesn't understand why you're doing that, all she knows is that you're being cruel and getting poo or urine on her.

Some people put the litter box near the food dish.  Cats hate that as they're fastidious about their toilet.  If they wnt the food, they won't go potty in the box next to it.

  3. Sometimes, even if the cat is already trained in using litter boxes, the owner usually finds his pet urinating or defecating just a few inches away from the litter box. The cat wants to use the litter box, and this can be proven by the proximity of the waste to the litter box. However, because the litter box is dirty, the cat opted not to use it.

The point here is that cats prefer to expel body wastes on clean areas. So make it a point to regularly check if the litter box is always clean and ready for your cat's use. The cleanliness of the area where the litter box is situated must also be checked frequently.

Do not expect your cat to defecate or urinate in busy areas because they also have the need for privacy. That is why most cats prefer to do their thing behind furniture, or in corners of rooms.

To solve the problem, place litter boxes in areas where cats would be less likely to be disturbed.

  4. You shouldn't rub your cat's nose in the mess, this will just make her run away from you. If you do not spend much time with your cat she will display her frustration by peeing on your bed. It is also important to have a clean litter box and take litter out daily. Make sure you use the litter she likes, cats tend to prefer the clumping kind as it feels good on their paws. Hope this helps.

  5. Never, ever rub her nose in it.  Same with dogs.  All it does is teach the animal to find better hiding places.  Or, in the sad case of one dog I met, to always put his own face in it after he goes.

A cat wants to have a clean, safe place to go to the bathroom.  Where is the litter box?  Has she ever used it in that spot?  Have you changed the brand of litter?  Is it somewhere that is easy to get to?  Does she have trouble getting off of the bed?  (joint troubles?)

The most important thing is to figure out why she isn't using the litter box and solve that problem.  (My cat wasn't using it because the litter I put in there was different enough from what she was used to that she didn't recognize it as litter and would pee on my bed when she couldn't hold it any longer, poor sweetie.)

Once you have solved that problem, then I would actually cover the bed in aluminum foil when I would leave for the day, and stop doing that once she starts using the litter box.  (cats don't like walking on foil)

  6. first off ur not suppose to rub the poor cats nose in it or gently pat it on the butt instead ur suppose to show the cat what its done and say no in a stern voice and spray the face with water. no wonder it craps in ur bed

  7. Cats are incredibly crazy about independence and cleanliness.  First, don't let the cat in your bed, ever.  This will let her/him know that it is not his/'her space.

Ensure the litter box is extremely clean, they should take over and make it clean themselves, but immediately scoop out doo or blotches as they appear or are made.

This is all you can do for now.....GOOD LUCK
