Question:

My cat won't eat or come out from under the bed....?

My cat wouldn't come in on Saturday night - I stayed up really late calling him, but to no avail. The next morning I got up really early and he came dashing in with a huge bushy tail, obviously spooked. Since then he has not wanted to go out, but last night and all of today he has stayed under my bed, not eaten or drunk apart from two small biscuits that I hand-fed him. When he tried his food yesterday he started retching. I am taking him to the RSPCA on Thursday, as that is the only day that they are open, but are there any vets out there or professionals that can help until then? He is two and a half, not neutered yet. How can I keep him hydrated until Thursday? If anyone has any suggestions, it would be of great help. Thank you

  1. Feeding wet food will up his intake of fluid. Cut out any dry food and try to supplement as much water as you can. If he's taking hand-feeding, keep that up. You can also give unseasoned chicken broth. If his symptoms worsen or if you pull up on his neck skin and it doesn't snap right back, call the vet and have him seen as an emergency case ASAP.  Make sure you keep him inside until after the vet has given the ok for him to go out again and he has been neutered (everytime he goes out, he has the potential to make more unwanted kittens).

  2. Well since he's eating out of your hand then I'm sure he'd drink for a little bowl of water if you take it to him under the bed. I'd also give him really small amounts of food to see if he can keep that down, but just small amounts since he obviously has stomach issues if he keeps throwing up. By the way, what kind of food do you feed him? Sometimes a cheap food over a long period of time can make cats unhealthy. Authority and Nutro are good foods for cats. They have lots of vitamins and nutrients they need. You could try some of that and slowly mix in more and more with his old food so he gets used to it.

  3. It's just a cat habit that happens all the time
