This morning my cat (about 7 years old) threw up 5 times. Only the first couple of times had food in it, the other ones were just mainly liquid. It's almost 4pm now and he has been just laying under my bed since 6am. I got him to come out for just a little while about an hour ago and he purred when I pet him and wagged his tail a bit, and even nudged me. He acted like his normal self, toned down a little bit though, he seems weak. He almost fell jumping up to the bathroom counter which is never an issue for him, he can easily jump that height. Then I got him to drink a little bit of water, but he stopped abruptly almost like it wasn't going down well. And now he is back under my bed. I'm planning on taking him to the vet either way, but do you have any ideas on what could be the problem here? Thank you. (BTW, he does go outside from time to time)

  1. Sorry to hear about your kitty.  Sounds like he might have some type of blockage and yes, take him to the vet ASAP.

  2. Sounds like you should take it to the vet. If your cat threw up 5 times and won't drink he is prob getting dehidrated and malnurished. I don't know what is wrong with him. Sorry.

  3. I doubt it would be anything such as Ethylene glycol (antifreeze) but it may be something else he encountered outside.  When cats digest antifreeze, they usually get dehydrated and will be wanting to drink.  Its possible it could be from changing his diet too often such as wet to dry food and back,  or new food/brands he's not used to.

Does he have up to date shots?  Bats have been increasingly populated with rabies lately.

I'd see what the vet has to say, it could be a variety of things or it may be nothing big and could pass over in a couple days.

  4. its sick

  5. I strongly recommend that you get your cat to the vet sooner rather than later if he is not drinking or eating and vomiting he needs medical attention.

  6. maybe a fur ball.

  7. its dead

  8. You really need to call your vet on this.  There could be a number of things wrong.

  9. UM it's sick. It could have a block, UTI, tumor in which has grown or tumor that burst?

I would not be waisting time on here if my cat was acting like that, please have it seen by a vet ASAP!

  10. There are so many possibilities, it's hard to tell without an exam.  I would take him to the vet ASAP, today if possible.  Keep in mind that when you see a cat acting sick, they are really sick.  By instinct, they never want to show weakness, so they will have to be really sick for you to notice them acting sick.

He could have a blockage, a stomach virus, FIP, eaten something bad, etc.

    Good luck.

  11. You need to take it to the vet it could have a serious illness.

  12. I think it is a great idea to take him to a vet. Since you let your cat outside, he may have eaten a mouse (possibly with poison in it or that had a disease) and has gotton the mouse's disease. Try taking him to a vet as soon as possible because you have have a serious issue ( but hopefully not).

  13. Glad to hear that you're taking him to the Vet.  He could have eaten something really gross (to us anyhow) outside, but  it could be the heat as well.  (or humidity)  I am hoping that your cat is ok, and, 7 is fairly young(I say this because I have an 18 yr old Maine Coon).  He could just be having a hairball issue, mine often throw up clear, or just hack, and there it is..

I am sure that your Vet will take tests and determine why he is ill, and again I wish you luck.
