My cat is about to turn 4 yrs old and she still won't respond to her name. She doesn't have hearing problems at all so that's not the case. Can anyone help?

  1. cats do not learn the same way dogs do. a dog will pick up its name quickly, but a cat needs time and pleasurable experiences like food and play for name training. unless its an outdoor cat, why does it really matter if the cat knows it name... just saying

  2. Most cats don't respond to their names like dogs do. Simple as that. :) My moms cat is 13 and still doesn't respond!

  3. my cat is 4 months old and responds to her name. Cats are more respondant to names that end in the e sound (dont ask me i read it in a book) such as mimi :] she should have been trained from young, like i always say mimi's name then whistle at her tocome and when she does she usually gets rewarderd, only because i usually call her at feeding time :]

  4. Cats are not like dogs.  They don't respond to their names and usually don't care that you are calling for them.  My cat is 7 years old and she has never responded to her name.  I make a certain clicking sound with my tongue that will get her to come or I put food in her dish or rattle it around to make her think I put food in it.  That usually brings her around.

  5. maybe its too long of a name or something. or maybe you just dont call her it enough. all my cats respond to their names and one of them is a stray who probly didnt have the same name i call her and she still responds to it. so i really dont know

  6. Try opening up a can of cat food and holding it while you call her name. Then that might help her learn.

  7. you are suppose to train your cat to respond to her name. Go into a room, you go to one side of the room, and the cat on the other side. Now hold a treat on your hand, and call its name and than it will come to you . Do this for about 5 times, 2 sessions a day. It should learn its name in about a week. Good luck!

  8. Yes some cats are not in to the whole I am here thing. Instead its I  will do what you want thing that's why they are so special!! You can tell when she understands she may slightly move one ear... she will know her name, she just wont let you KNOW SHE KNOWS!! heh heh gotta love them

  9. Cats don't usually come when called.  I will use my cat's name right before words like "dinner" or "treat" and they have always learned their names pretty well.

What's the name?  Is it long and complicated?
