My cat won't take care of her kittens?

They were born 3 days ago and they are still alive but my cat won't feed them, she acts like they're not hers (but they are). That happened to my last cat too. No one has touched the kittens. Why is she doing this?

  1. Sometimes cats do that because there is something wrong with the litter.  The mothers often know if they have had kittens that will have diseases or other problems by instinct and not take care of them.  It is really sad when it happens, but is a lot more common than you might think.  There isn't much you can do for the kittens.  You could try to nurse them yourselves with kitten milk from a pet store, but they are really young.  If they are still alive and are cleaned then they must have been fed and taken care of immediately after being born; maybe the mother will end up taking care of them.

  2. Get to a vet ASAP...you will have to take over or they will die.

  3. I'm guessing that she gets to go outside and that's how she gets pregnant, right?  Well, we once found a kitten litter that was abandoned by it's mother, and when we took one of the poor little ones to the vet, the vet said it had a form of cat herpes and would most likely die.  She said that if the mama cat knows that the kittens are ill, she will abandon them.  That may be the case here.  That could also mean your cat may have caught the disease.  Get her and her kittens to a vet if possible to have them checked out.  One way we knew the kitten was ill was because it's eyes were cloudy and it had trouble walking and also did not know how to even drink from a small kitten baby bottle.  Sorry.

  4. The important thing is to feed this kittens, get some kitten replacement milk and a bottle, otherwise they will die.

    RIGHT, now heres the lecture

Get your cats FIXED/SPAYED, As you have said this isnt their 1st litters and this is their way of telling you THEY HAVE HAD ENOUGH.

How many more times are you going to allow them to become pregnant ?

Now do the right thing by these cats and get them sorted !!!!

  5. I don't know why, but some cats just are that way.  Get her spayed and you won't have to worry about it.

  6. Some cats are just not good moms.  Hold her so they can nurse.  She may not like you for it.  You probably will have to start feeding your kittens with a bottle.  They make bottles for this.  I have raised kittens on soy baby formula before.  But try to force the mom to let the kittens nurse.  The kittens may have something wrong with them that you can't see yet.  The mother might know they are sick.  Sometimes animals will let their babies die is they are sick.  If they won't take a bottle you can use an eyedropper you get at the pharmacy.  You will need to feed them several times a day until they get big enough to eat soft food on their own.

  7. im not sure why she is doing that, all i know is that you need to feed them right away..... go to the store and buy goat's milk and heat it up so that it is warm and then give it to them. the goats milk is better so they wont get worms....

    hope this helps
