My cat was attacked by a pitbull on wednesday, i thought he was lost but some lady saw the dog attack him and took him to the vet hospital. she said the vet said he should be ok, didnt have any internal injuries and his vitals were good, but he has staples and stiches.

My cat is acting pretty good considering what happened to him, he just sleeps a lot, but i havent seen him eat or drink that the worries me, he is on medication and i know that makes them not feel hungry, but how long can i let him go without eating or drinking before i have to worry about it and take him back in?

  1. if he is not eating or drinking, then he must have something in his thorough. He won't eat or drink because each time he moves his tounge, it scratches his throught. if you can, try to gently pull it out. if you can't, for it's just too deep in, then your cat must swallow it.

  2. I would say call the Vet now, and explain this to him/her.  You don't want your cat getting dehydrated, which he is in danger of, if he isn't already.  Hope he gets better!

  3. Drip water into the corner of his mouth with a pipette, my mum did this for several days when our cat got run over. You could also try milk or liquidized meat. If you are worried about him, ring the vet and ask what to  do, rather than immediately taking him in. I'm sure your vet cares enough about saving animals to give you free advice over the phone. I really hope he gets better.

  4. Medication should make the cat hungry.

I don't want to be the person to say "Just let him be", but that's what I did to my older cat, and it got so bad that her liver started to fail. A cat can't go without water for very long. I read that it's 24-48 hours before the cat becomes really sick.

The older cat that I have (she's four years old), I left her alone.. She stopped eating and drinking. She was very dehydrated, and skin & bones, so I brought her to the Vet, and come to find out she has a liver problem.

Maybe you should take your cat for further testing. They can do a complete panel of tests, and if nothing is wrong and you're worried that he will not drink talk to the vet about injecting water pockets. They last for a good 36 hours. The not eating thing, I'd try to force feed him.

Either way, talk to your vet immediately. It could be something serious, and I am sure that you wouldn't want the poor thing to suffer.

  5. Since the vet knows the situation, just give her a call. Go from there. Hope the kitty gets better.

  6. Cats can go a couple weeks without eating.7 at the most.he probably is scared after the pitbull attack and just will not eat fo a couple days 2 a couple weeks. if he gets REALLY skinny take him to the vet. Although, it is possible that he's just eating a little at night. cats are up at night mostly after all! If he's going to the bathroom, he should be okay. but sometimes it doesn't always mean anything.but, if he's using the litterbox, he should be okay. I hope this helped and good luck!

  7. I would call your vet and see what they suggest but  you can also try bringing some water and food to your cat.  Sometimes they are too tired to move so bringing them some water and food to them helps get them interested.  When my cat was ill, i use to leave a plate of food on my bed where he was sleeping.  Basically set up a room for him, put food, water and a litter box in there that way you can monitor what he is doing, plus he won't have to move much since I am sure he is in quite a bit of pain.

  8. Try treats like ham or actual cat treat if you have any! Try putting water in his month with a pipette if you don't have a pipette, put some around the mouth as cats don't like wet mouths and he should l**k it off!

    Then call a vet!!!!!

    Hope this helps :]

  9. Feed him tuna juice, he's getting fluids and protein and it's easy for him to digest.

  10. hi i love cats and i love to help.i think that you should take her to the vet.but first you can search an edvice from a friend who has a cat.i once had a cat with the same problem and i took it to a vet.he told me that he doesent know how to fix this problem so i called a friend and be gave me some food i dont remember it and it worked .so i think that you should ask a friend but to be sure first go to a vet.alsow you can ask your parents for help.i hope your cat gets better good luck!

  11. Hello - you have my sympathy - my dog suffered the same fate a few years ago. Like your cat, she didn't eat or drink, or even get up to relieve herself for days. I started feeding her a little really nice soft food and water from a spoon so that she could stay in her basket, and after about a week she began to feed normally again. As for weeing - after about 5 days she got up and had the biggest wee ever! Try giving your cat a little food and water in a similar way, but if she doesn't take anything I would suggest ringing the vet on Monday. Good luck - my dog made a full recovery - I hope your cat does too.
