My cat got in a fight this morning and his eye was bleeding. My dad wiped it clean but my cat hasn't been opening it for a while. He opened it twice and it looks fine except for a lot of clear gunk is coming out of it. Should i take him to the vet or will it heal on it's own?

  1. I'm sorry to hear that your parents aren't responsible enough to take the cat to the vet.  There is a strong chance the eye will become infected.  You can try flushing it with saline solution 3-4 times a day.  Saline solution can be found at your local drug store.  The cat won't like this & you may need to have someone help you, but it will help to keep it cleaned out.  See the below article on how to treat a cat with a scratched eye.  It may help to wrap your cat in a towel or blanket while you try to do this to keep it from scratching you while you're trying to put the saline solution in it's eye.

If you have your own money and you have a friend or someone else that will drive you, please take the cat to the vet on your own.  Part of having pets means we will be responsible enough to take proper care of them.  It's a shame that your parents aren't leading by example.

Here's a link to a natural treatment, but you'd have to find it or order it and if you had to order it, it may take too long:

Here's some other articles I found:

Good luck.  I hope you're able to take care of this situation on your own.

  2. definitly to the vet. you should have taken him when his eye was bleeding at first. watch him carfully dont leave his side. bring him to the vet asap

  3. Who knows but it will most likely get infected if you don't take him to the vet.

  4. Get him to the vet.  It sounds like there's a chance that he will lose the eye, but if you get him to the vet he will be fine in the long run (whether he loses the eye or not).

Edited to add:  Honestly not sure why this answer has received two thumbs down.  The cat's eye is damaged (possibly beyond repair, only the vet can tell).  He needs treatment, and if the vet sees him soon, he should be fine...even if his eye is not.

  5. if your eye was cut, would YOU open it? the cat is just in pain. it will heal. the clear stuff is just it healing, kind of like a scab.

  6. You need to take him to the vet and let the vet examine the eye.  If your cat got into a fight it's possible that he has a scratch on the eye its self and only your vet will be able to see it once he stains the eye and can examine it using tools he has in his office.

Your vet will be able to prescribe the proper antibiotic ointment or drops to help heal your cats eye no matter what the problem.

Your cat is in a lot of pain.  Please take it to a vet...and keep it away from the source of the "cat fight" from now on.

  7. The cat probably has a scratch on it's eye. You need to take it to the vet and they will put a dye into the eye and will be able to see if there is any trauma. Whether it will heal on it's own it is hard to say, but I do know this is very uncomfortable for the cat right now. Why take the chance of a infection when you stop it right now with a trip to the vet

Addition*****I am sorry to hear that your parents are putting money before the welfare of the cat. If it were their eye that was scratched I bet they couldn't get to the doctor quick enough. Please watch your cat very closely and if it's eye starts to swell, thick drainage comes out or the cat seems in pain your parents really need to take it in as the cat could lose his sight
