I have a persian/himalayan mix cat with very long black hair. I get her groomed with a lion cut every 10 weeks, but this last time only the fur on the bottom half of her body grew back. The other hair is still short and kinda rough too. Her skin is also very dry. My vet is stumped. He gave me a round of antibiotic and it helped a little bit, I think. But she looks pretty silly. Have any of you experienced this problem with your cat? What about dry skin solutions too?

  1. I would maybe add some fats to her diet.  Does she get canned food?  Maybe some canned fish or tuna would help.  My cat loves poached eggs, weird I know, but eggs are loaded with vitamins and are really good for the coat.  I always cook her up one when I make them for my family and then cut it up and she devours it.  It just sounds like a nutritional thing if her skin is dry.  You could also try vitamins for cats which are sold at the pet stores.  But I would try adding fatty foods to her diet first, it's easier and cheaper.

  2. Hi - sounds quite similar to something my cat had.  Although, he's a moggy - he began basically looking quite scanky, with patchy fur and some dry skin and occasional small scabs.  The vet gave him some kind of antibiotic injection which did nothing.  He still gets this condition now and again.  My mum and I both think that he's got a flea allergy.  He seems to get much, much better when he's treated with frontline - the fur all grows back.  I think he pulls some of the fur out though.  Hope this helps!

  3. sounds possibly like it might be some kind of reaction to the shampoo or something that the groomers use.  try bathing her with a dandruff or dry scalp shampoo, and rinse her really well. that way if she has an allergy to the groomers stuff, the dandruff shampoo will soothe itchy shin.  you could also try and soothing oatmeal shampoo. the only other thing that i could think of would be like mites or something like that under the skin, but if your vet doesnt know, then maybe you should get a second oppinion medically speaking.  best of luck to you.

  4. try antibiotic creams and see if it helped make sure they get plenty of fluids.....this happened to my dad's friends dog. and that's what they  didi and it grew back. =] maybe it will just take time.
