my cat is about 10 yrs old. he wont eat dry food anymore, i guess it hurts too much to eat. i feel real bad, i shouldve taken him to the vet to get his teeth checked/ cleaned, but who has the money? what can i do to help him? i give him a can of cat food twice a day so he does not starve. and he seems happy. he plays with the other male in the house( a siamese by the way) and he chases the female around. he does not seem to be in any pain. but i tried to look at his teeth and he wont let me. i think i saw teeth missing, but he was squirming so much i couldnt tell. i am calling a vet in the morning to see how much it costs so i can save up. this particular vet specializes in dental work, so hes in good hands. i just want to know what i can get him in the meantime or what i can do, besides what ive already done. thanks in advance.

  1. Hi Lindalee... periodontal disorders/diseases are not uncommon with senior kitties and do require veterinary evaluation to be treated respectively.  Here's more about senior cat's and aging disorders/diseases: http://www.vet.cornell.edu/fhc/resources...

If you need  financial assistance there are several options to assist you from the following organizations: http://felinediabetes.com/vetbills

Care Credit http://www.carecredit.com is one of the most helpful to provide loans for veterinary care.

Consider also asking this specialist veterinarian you are planning to contact tomorrow if they have charitable assistance organizations in your city to help with your cat's care as well.  Oftentimes there are these charities that many people are unaware of.

  2. Along with Seattle's advice:

Talk about your questions with the vet.  See if this vet will treat your cat immediately and put you on a payment plan.  Your cat's comfort and health are the most important thing.

Keep in mind Siamese are a breed that often have dental problems.  You should be using enzymatic animal toothpaste on your Siamese, although if you have done nothing about that cat's teeth he may need dental work too.  You should buy the toothpaste from a vet.

Don't use animal toothpaste on your 10 year old, until AFTER he's seen by a vet.  Never use toothpaste for humans, or you will poison your cats.

  3. He maybe have cavities lol OR he doesn't like dry cat food anymore. well anyways in the meantime probably you mean like a day or 2 so just do wat you always do give him cans of cat food.
