Anyone else have this problem? How do I get them to bury it so that it doesnt stink up the whole house? I have 3 cats, and 2 of them are new, about 12 week old kittens. Im not sure which one it is- but how do I fix this?

Any suggestions?

Thanks-

  1. Your kittens are still very young, give them time and they will catch on.  And, thank your lucky stars that they do use the litter box.

    Good Luck!

  2. Many people believe they bury their waste products because they are fastidious.  That isn't necessarily so.  In the wild, only secondary cats bury their waste to protect their trail from predators.  The dominant feline will actually display his or her f***s prominently.  This sends a strong message of dominance.  In the world of house cats, you are the dominant animal and the house cat chooses not to offend you. They will carefully bury their f***s to eliminate interfering with what they perceive as the natural order.

  3. what i have done is take their little paws GENTLY and do the burying motion for them, they get the idea. just make sure to be CAREFUL! enjoy your new kittens!

  4. there is no way to stop this, but even if they do bury it there "stuff" still smells , my kitten burys hers and still the whole house smells

    i hope this helps you

  5. Your kitten might not have learned how to properly go in the litter. Were they with their mother until 12 weeks old? Kitten learns to go in the litter from their mother. The action of burying is part instinct and part learned behavior. In any case there is nothing you can do about it.

There is also another reason why cats don't bury. In the wild cats don't usually bury their business unless they feel treathen in their territory. If they feel in control of it (feel they dominate it) they won't bury. So if one of your cats consider you lower in the dominance ladder (kitten that young don't thought, they must be around 10 to 14 months old) and it is you that change the litter, they won't bury.  There is nothing you can do about it unfortunetly.

Be sure to have three litter (one per cat) and it might helps because the dominant cat will not buried but the other will, so you might be lucky and having other lower cat burying you dominant cat's business

    Good luck

  6. You can't really get them to do this.  It stinks to you, not them.  I have 2 cats and sometimes they bury it, sometimes they don't.  You could get the scooper and cover it yourself after they go but they still may not catch the hint.

  7. Good luck--my 12 year old cat never covers his mess....ugh.
