  1. one of the most common things is a blown compressor capacitor.  You can try to find the capacitor for your unit, but i can vouch for the fact it's a lot easier to get ahold of an HVAC tech for that one.  One other thing may be your refrigerant.  If you've either frozen up your refrigerant sytem or lost all your refrigerant due to a leak (don't worry, you'll live and be fine), your system will either freeze up, or not work at all.  Both of these actually take an HVAC tech unless your EPA certified for refrigerant handling and feeling frisky (or HVAC certified).  If you know your system is moving air and all of the fans work, beyond checking to make sure your filter is good and clean, it's best left to some one that actually can get the part numbers and knows the systems.

  2. check to make sure you have the thermostat control is set to cool and that the fan is set to automatic

  3. Check the condenser above the furnace. there is a removable cover. Look to see if there is ice on it. If there is, the ice has blocked the fan from blowing cold air into the house. Turn off the A/C and thaw it out. Then call an HVAC co. to come out and charge it. If it's not froze, turn off the A/C and wash the outside condenser. Use as much stream as possible to blast the coils.

    Hope this helps.

  4. It needs to be recharged with freon or whatever they are now using in its place.

  5. The cheap way is to have a a/c guy come out and do a routine maintenance check it will cost allot less $50-60 com paired to $200-300 but you got to have a little Patience

  6. sounds like you need more coolant
