My air conditioner has a drainage line going from the roof to outside and is not stopped off but the drip pan still fills up about every 4 to 5 days and the safty switch trips off. Any ideas on why this is doing this.

  1. the conensation line is stopped up. do you have a cond.pump or just a cond.drain line?

ckeck where the water is exiting the pan, you'll probably find it there,or if you habe a pump its either stopped up or gone out

  2. The air handler has a leak.  Most of the condensate (water from the a/c running) is going out the drain, but just enough is dripping into the pan to cause this.

Have an HVAC technician check the pitch of the unit and see if it's leaking.

  3. if the drip pan discharge line isn't stopped up then it has to be severely restricted. that is not letting as much water out as it is taking in. also check the refrigerant lines and make sure they are well insulated or they will sweat. sweating lines create more water.

  4. either the evap coil is clogged it starts slinging water around or there is no p-trap on negative flow or theres a blow hole not covered before p-trap
