My central air conditioning unit has stopped working. The AC UNIT outside works (spinning) but doesn't cool!

Please help! The AC fan blower outside spins perfectly, but the house doesn't cool on COOL MODE. Turning on the FAN works, but barely blows any cool air inside the house (NON AC, just FAN on ON not AUTO.)

  1. so you are saying the pump does not work. Well there are too many reasons to list and most of them you would not have the equipment for. Call a serviceman.

  2. Sounds like the compressor in the unit is bad, get an estimate on replaceing it, sometimes buying a new a/c unit is cheaper.  Have a repairman come out and make sure thats the problem.  Only about 50 or 60 dollars to have it checked out.  call a repair service first and get an estimate.

  3. need to replenish with cooling gas ( freon is not used anymore)

  4. Call a service man, the unit is not operating properly.

  5. Less than 1 yr., has a parts and labor warranty.  Over 1 yr. old the compressor is warranteed, but not the labor.  Call the original installer.  Good luck and God Bless.

  6. A couple of things to consider since I've been down this road myself: 1) If the unit is only 1 year old it is highly unlikely that it needs to be recharged---of course, unless you have a leak but this isn't a 'normal' situation, 2) If you've had some high humidity and hot days and you've been running the AC non-stop then this could freeze the lines which will produce the situation you're experiencing, 3) A simple, yet mostly overlooked, maintenance of cleaning the fins---turn the AC off, use a water hose to wash the outside and inside (as best as you can reach) of the AC fins--you can also buy a cleaner at your local hardware store and a fin straightner which will allow you to fix bent fins---these fins allow the air to flow through the coils in order to dissipate the heat, 4) I would think that if you've taken all this into consideration it could be the relay switch which has blown---relay switches will burn out faster than blowing out the compressor; they actually help protect this from happening. You can do the cleaning yourself and save you about $100 from having someone come out and do that. I would also trying resetting the braker after you've cleaned it---don't forget to change your air filter once a month; this could also clog your system preventing cool air to come through---as simple and 'common sense' as this may sound, you'd be surprised as to how many people overlook the most simple things! Hope you get it running!

  7. ...the compressor may be "shot"...or you've lost pressure due to a leak...  call the A/C guy...

  8. out of freon?
