ok well for a couple days now the air hasnt been blowing cool air (hardly any air) and before this...it wasnt working as good this summer as it was last. my hubby said the lines or hoses whatever are freezing. does this mean it is low on freon? or what could cause it to freeze like that? and would it being low on freon make our air not blow hardly anything out the vents? and one more thing....if it is low on freon, do we have a leak somewhere or does it just go down over time? we moved in this place 1 1/2 years ago and havent had any problems with it until now. i have no clue how old the unit is but it is a nice unit...does look old. if someone could answer any of these questions that would be great!! thanks so much in advace!!

  1. Run the fan ONLY for 45 minutes and this will melt the ice Then put it to cool. This will get you some cooling till it feeezes up again.Dirty filter, coil, blower runing on the wrong speed ,or lack or refrigerant will all cause this problem.Check them all.Good luck.

  2. If you own the house, call a heating/AC repairman and ask for a tune-up.  The money you pay can be more than offset by increasing the efficiency of the system, especially if it gets cold in your area in the winter.

If you rent - ask the landlord to have someone look at the system.

  3. The first thing to check for a freeze up problem is filters. Your filters must be clean. If this is done, and you still have a problem, the unit is probably low on gas. This is something you have to be trained to do, so I would suggest calling a reputable firm.Good luck.

  4. yes u can do it yourself as long as you know waht your doing

try going to menards & ask the sales person there for some help & what is the best thing to buy for that
