My chain keeps falling off my bike...

its an electra beach cruiser, maybe a month old, and i know how to put the chain back on, but it just pops off the gears on the back tire when i hit a bump or something, and its kind of irritating... how can i fix it?

  1. If you can, try and position the rear wheel a bit farther back, so that the chain is more taught.


  2. Loosen the nuts on the rear axle just enough that you can move the wheel.

    Loosen the brake arm clamp bolt.

    Slide the wheel back just a little.

    Check the tension on the chain, in the center of the chain between the front and rear sprockets the chain should move about 1/2 inch up or down.

    Once you have the tension correct make sure the wheel is straight, the tire should be in the center of the frame on the chain stay.

    Check the chain tension again, when it is OK tighten the nuts on the axle.

    Tighten down the brake arm clamp bolt.

  3. Adjust the rear wheel . first loosen the wheel nuts, then slide the wheel back in the axle "dropout" slots.

    Then Re-Tighten the wheel nuts .

    this should take the slack out of the chain.

  4. it is to loose or a link is shot bring it to the bike shop.
