My child has THE most irritating, annoying, mindwracking habit ever! How do I break it?

She is 7 years old, and will listen to the same song over and over and over and over and over again...

She'll watch the same movie over and over and over and over again for weeks! It's to the point where now all I have to do is hear a half a sentence from the other room, and I'll know what movie she has playing! If anyone says "Bee Movie" or "Finding Nemo" around me, I'll stangle them, I swear...

How do I get her to break this habit?!?

  1. theres nothing wronge with loveing some movie or song

  2. Although I know it must be annoying, if she likes the song or the movie, why should you keep her from watching it.

Buy her new CDs and DVDs, but really if she wants to watch the same thing over and over, I really don't see a problem.

My daughter watched Forest Gump so much last summer that she memorized every word, and she's almost that far on Remember the Titans. Often when memorizing a song, she'll listen to the same song again and again and again as well.

  3. That's just what children their age do. She will grow out of it- at least mine did by the time they were ninish. I don't know why but I think children that age feel comfort in knowing something so well. i mean, I like knowing a song so well I can say all the words and sing along. Suggest headphones for the tv and music if it's really getting on your nerves. I don't know how to break it, but she's only little and will grow out of it. It's like in school- the kids have a massive craze of Pokemon, and then bam, they go off it and want to play tag and then suddenly their back on yugio. Good luck though.

  4. Try limiting her tv time......

  5. My daughter loves her Hannah Montana CD and listens to it all the time...but not the same song over and over again.

Maybe take her to the movies so she can see the different movies that are out...take her shopping and tell her to pick out some different movies might help her too.

    Good luck!

  6. How about simply telling her "no"?  Doesn't your television have an OFF button?  Use it.

  7. contact Super Nanny ?

  8. thats how my kids are they can watch bee movie, finding nemo, spongebob, cats and dogs, simpsons movie, cars, and all their other movies over and over and over and over and over again.. i already know all of their movies and lines from the movies by heart. but i survive it, try to get her to like something else so that she will have a variety of music to listen too or movies to watch so it doesn't have to be the same thing over and over again...

  9. I don't think it's a habit. I think she just loves those songs and movies.

  10. You could try limiting the amount of time she spends watching TV, or tell her that she is only allowed to watch each movie once per week. My stepdaughter did this with her kids bop cd and so I told her that if she kept playing it so much it would break from over use and that I would not buy her another one. Finally she cut down, but I was still so sick of hearing it that I bought her headphones and told her she could only listen to it in her room with the headphones on.

  11. That's what kids do!!!!  I work as a teacher and I hear the same stuff all the time.    I had one boy that would get on a kick with something for weeks.  If we had free drawing time, he'd draw that object.  If we had free writing exercises, he'd make up stories about that week's obsession.  The kids would play that game on the playground.

    But then.............it would stop.

For a few weeks, the boys were all into Iron man.   So, one day I said something about it.  The kids were like "No, Ms. Wish....now we're playing the Incredible Hulk"

I guess I didn't get the memo regarding the change!

  12. Some kids like watching movies over and over again. My cousin watched Sleeping Beauty to the point that the disc BROKE...let her grow out of it or attempt to introduce another movie.
