  1. Hi there - is this baby on formula or breast milk? If it is formula, then you might need to change to different one to fix the problem.  How much water does baby drink? Increasing water may help also. Not every baby poops every day. This doesn't make them considered constipated however. Babies are all different - just like people. As a last resort there is an e***a for the baby done by the Doctor - not at home. Little babies really need someone experienced to do it properly in a sterile room - would not want to upset their electrolyte balance, which is easy in a baby that young.

    Hope this helps

  2. Diluted OJ is better - make sure it is not from concentrate, it has added sugar.  Or try a little of the juice tinned prunes come in - make sure they come in natural juice not syrup.

  3. try some prunes or give him/her an e***a if that doesn't work you need to see a pediatrician

  4. Breastfed or Formula?

And when your child finally does have a bowel movement, what is the consistancy?

A baby is considered to be constipated if his p**p is FIRM, DRY and PEBBLY! Crying while having a bowel motion, bleeding from the a**s, abdominal pain and reduced appetite can ALSO be signs a baby is constipated.

If your baby's p**p is fluid, soft OR paste consistency, then he's NOT constipated.

I got a thumbs down for asking breast or formula?

    It makes a difference.

    When your baby is breastfed

    CONSISTENCY: Soft or runny.

COLOR: Yellow, mustard to orange with little white flecks that look like seeds.

FREQUENCY: Can vary from EVERY feed to ONCE every week or so.

When your baby is bottle fed

    CONSISTENCY: Soft paste.

COLOR: Grayish green, yellow, tan OR brown, depending on the type of formula.

FREQUENCY: Once (sometimes twice) every 1 or 2 days.

When your baby is eating solid food

CONSISTENCY: Paste to formed stools. Often contains undigested food.

COLOR: Can VARY depending on WHAT has been eaten.

FREQUENCY: Can be less frequent - particularly for a breastfed baby.

I have also read that yogurt may help with constipation.  Check with the links above because they have some treatment recommendations.

  5. Make an appointment with your pediatrician. There could be something else going on.

What do you mean by constipated? Does he only p**p once a day or every other day? Are the p**p hard and formed, not soft?  Ultimately what I'm saying is make sure you know what your babies routine is... not what you think it should be.

Try a formula with more fiber.

Do kicking exercises with your baby several times a day. This helps get the bowels moving. Your baby will be on his back. hold his legs and push them toward his belly and then pull back down, move one leg or two at a time. This can also help.

Don't rely on suppositories you don't want to make your baby dependent on this assistance to p**p. You can actually cause more harm than good.

Call your doctor for a visit and talk to them about other things you can do at home.

Remember you need to be paying attention to what your babies bowel habits are, not what you think they should be.

    Good luck.
