  1. Children are lot smarter than adults give them credit for! f its something he's interested in then he will recall things better because he's more focused. If these car names are being reinforced eg he's sees them a lot, has car books, you point car things out etc then his memory is having chance to 'repeat' and 'rehearse' which are skills needed to store things in the long term memory.

Also does he get attention and praise for it-because if he does then he knows its a good thing and hence will carry it on :)

It's a great gift as like someone already said it will make learning interesting as if he's in a good preschool setting they will use this interest to support him learning the 6 areas of development. Maybe the next step for you from here is to do activities to extend his learning eg: letter sounds (you can amke lisence plates), numbers-wheels, colours of the cars etc.

  2. He obviously has an interest in cars.

My cousin was the same way. His first words were car terms.

He can name ANY car, all Nascar Race Drivers, anything

having to do with cars, he knows it.

When children, especially young children, take an interest in

something, they tend to remember it better then something

they find less interesting. I was the same about dancing... I

knew all the dance terms, positions and whatnot by age 2.5 ♥

  3. I have seen it before, rare but it does happen. I had a child that could repeat the entire class roll call in order with mother/father names and address. at the age of 2.

Use it to your advantage, get him to point out the differences in the makes/models this will become a usefull skill when learning to read and write.

  4. must be possible bcs sm child has the god gifted brain n ur child is the one of them

  5. I dunno how it's possible, but my cousin is 6 and he could do this since he was like 4 :)

  6. It's obvious that this is an interest to him and it will be a good way to "connect" with him when you are trying to teach him other concepts.  A lot of literacy, mathematics, science, etc can be taught with transportation as the "theme".

I find that usually when a child has such a great interest and knowledge that usually there is someone in the family that shares the interest.  For example, my son could write letters early but couldn't draw worth anything but his cousin who was 6 months younger could draw recognizable tractors and such and tell you all about it but couldn't write his name.  Difference... my son is around me who is more "educationally orientated" with very little drawing ability and his cousin had a dad who drew tractors and such with him all the time.  Appreciate it and use it toward you and your child's benefit.  Great that he has a great memory...that will benefit him greatly as he grows older.  :-)

  7. All boys like cars I believe :D That..or he's been hanging with Dad too much haha
