My child requests donations for a charity in lieu of gifts what is the "proper" way to say that?

The charity is the Humane Society. Should I include a small list of items that are greatly in need there? I don't want to word it as so that anyone would be offended. It is most important that the children come and we do not expect anything from anyone. Would like help on proper etiquette wording please.. THANKS!

  1. How about something like - Please join us as we celebrate (name) (age) birthday!

    Where

    When

    RSVP

(Name) has expressed an interest in donating any money recieved for his birthday to the Humane Society.  While gifts are appreciated they are not necessary.

  2. say... in lieu of gifts (child's name) wishes for you to donate (list of items) to the Humane Society in his name.

Make sure they know you are doing this also...

  3. I have seen this wording...

"The best present is your presence."

    You could add this...

"But, if you would like to give Johnny a gift, please make a small donation of money or goods to the local Humane Society."

By adding the word small you are telling them that if they do anything do something small; most people though will still be generous when they donate.  I would not give them a list though.  If they want to know something specific, they will ask.

  4. I am so delighted to read your question.  What a special child you have, you must be so proud of him/her!.  On the invitation just include the information.  I know people will comply and think that it is special..  Just state exactly what you wrote, it will be perfect.  Perhaps your son/daughter will be teaching something wonderful to his/her friends.

    Maybe this might work

In lieu fo gifts (child's name) has requested that a donation

be made  to(name of organization).  You might want to say, food, blankets, towels, leashes or any other item or request a cash donation so the agency can purchase what they need.

You are an amazing mom, congratulations.

  5. Awww! What a SWEET Child!

Just say: For "(The name of your Son) Birthday, in lieu of Birthday Presents, he would like it, if you can help him donate to a worthy cause, the Humane Society. And then say: Here is a small list of items that are greatly in need there. Thanks for making (Child's Name) Birthday Wishes come true.
