  1. Its probably a good idea to prevent her other teeth from coming in crooked later on.  And its much cheaper than braces so just think about that.

  2. it depends on the childs age, what tooth, etc.

  3. My kids never had spacers. ... I think its just a way for dentists to make money. No braces later for them. Heck I didnt have to have braces either and I lost teeth and my teeth are straight.

  4. i don't think so,but i was raised in a generation that didn't have such stuff.my teeth are fine, just keep them clean and brushed,

  5. This is a tough one.  My oldest never had spacers and her teeth are perfect.  My youngest is a different story - she has a lot of crowding.  The problem I have with the spacers is that I'm not certain that using them will necessarily prevent the need for future braces.  Maybe you should ask the dentist point blank if the spacers will prevent the need in the future.  Best of Luck.

  6. My son had to have a maintainer put in the back of his mouth when one of his baby molars had to be pulled.  It was a huge inconvenience because the maintainer broke off while he was at school one day.  He hasn't had a bit of trouble.  The maintainer was put in when he was 5 and it came out when  he was 8, and he is now turning 11 in August.  The teeth will fall out anyway as they get older.  I know they will say that they need the place held open in case other teeth shift over, but I didn't see the point in them putting him back to sleep just to put the maintainer back when all of the back molars will be falling out within the next year or so.  It's always best for you to discuss all options with your dentist though.
