  1. it's worth a shot, but the down side of that would considering the size of your family, you would never have any down time for yourself. if they were to go to school, you would have a couple of hours to yourself to recharge, sit back and relax.

  2. I don't see why not!  Especially since you are obviously willing to put in the time and effort.  I was homeschooled K-12 and will most definitely homeschool my children until they are old enough to choose for themselves.  Homeschooling gave me more time with my family, more time to be involved in countless activities, time to really focus on my music, and to get college classes out of the way during high school.  As long as you can put up with ignorant people asking the socialization question, then I would go for it!

  3. Go for it. It's awesome to spend so much time with your kids, it's an amazing experience. It's work, but it's worth it, and Nebraska is supposed to be easy.

  4. im home schooled by connections academy im in 11th grade for a high school student its not the best ya know because thats when they need friends the most. I say that you let them try it out @ first they might not like it because they cant make new friends then again they might love the single attention and extra help. because i know i sure do. its alot of fun too not having to wake up early hehe i know thats not the best thing hah.. but some schools kids and teachers can be harsh so they might like not having to deal with that. but  i like it iv been doing all my highschool years wish i didnt have to cause i want a prom and gradituon cermony but they might be having those things next year so no worries i guess!

  5. First, don't see it as "let my kids be homeschooled". It makes it sound like they are asking to do something they shouldn't and you're wondering if you should give in.

Next, consider homeschooling your children if you are interested in spending a lot of time with them, you'd like more family bonding, you are open to learning and improving *yourself* while you work on your children's education, you are committed to making it a good experience and give them social outlets.

Homeschooling will be as good--or as bad--as you make it.

There's a wealth of information out there, and perhaps even a local homeschooling group. I'd recommend doing a search in Yahoo Groups for a city-based homeschool group and get some connections going, be able to ask every question that comes up. Also consider looking up online "advantages of homeschooling" or "benefits of homeschooling" and checking your local library for books.

It's really a sort of discernment process--as you collect information, you will better be able to see if it's the right choice for your family.

  6. Yes you should let them! I was pulled out of the public school system after 4 grade and was home schooled through high school. I have nothing against public schools, but we had crappy schools so my parents made a good choice. Each year before school started my parents asked if we (my sister and I) would like to go back to public. We always chose to stay home. And if your kids are asking they must not be getting what they need.

But then home schooling is not for everybody. My mom had my brother home but for high school he choose to go to public and he is doing sooo much better there! and it puts alot of work on you to teach them! It is a full time commitment and then some!

Ok I gave you alot of personal stuff, but I felt like sharing my  experience. Homeschooling is great, its just not for everybody! Good luck, I wish you the best!

  7. Your kids opinions may be based on them having a hard time adjusting to a new school.  Sometimes kids have to do things that are hard.  You being a teacher is a career, not a convenience choice for your kids.  If you really want to do the home school teaching, then it should be your choice not theirs.  Some parents home school out of fear that their children are not being properly cared for during the day.  I think that is a fairly flimsy reason do home schooling since the kids really are being well cared for in schools.  I applaud anyone who reduces the tax burden in general.

  8. Homeschooling is a great option for many families.

You can cater to your children's learning style.  You can choose the information and values you want to teach, and you don’t have to pressure your children to move faster than they are capable.  You also don’t have to hold your children back when they are ready to move on.  Statistics show homeschoolers outperform public and private school students academically.

Homeschoolers have more flexibility because they don't have to deal with school schedules.  You children will have more free time to pursue interests and activities, and do fun projects and field trips.

Homeschooled students tend to be more confident because they are not exposed to negative peer pressure or bullying from other kids.  Your kids will spend more time in the real world and are better prepared for life after graduation.
