My 6 year old chinchilla has, for the last day, been breathing very heavily. She was breathing through her mouth at one point but stopped. She's eating, drinking, but is acting a little more mellow than before, such as not chewing on anything. I caught her nibbling her front paws and everytime she exhales, her nose makes a weird "clicking" sound as if somethin was stuck in her nose or as if it was stuffy. I really had the impression that she was goin to die last night because I couldn't find out what was wrong and it hasn't been letting up. Can anyone give me an idea on what this is, or even what is causing it?

  1. Definitely take her to the vet before it's to late.

The clicking sound is not good and she likely has a respiratory issue of some sort likely a common cold.

Make sure there are no drafts in the house, and that the bedding isn't wet in any places, or that it didn't get heatstroke(rare).

I was reading a Rodent first Aid book today, and remember reading something about the clicking.

The symptoms of the Rodent cold is:

    Weakness

    Nasal discharge

    Labored brearthing

    Clicking sounds.

Sorry but your going to want to take her to the Vet, and I recommend you check the causes that I listed.
