  1. Since you're asking about a Lab, I'm assuming s/he has the floppy ears still, right?  Thats partly the problem as bacteria loooove dark, warm places.  You can try simply using a washcloth and some mild, diluted soap to clean the outside of her ear and dry it well!!

Try some ear oil on him.

You can buy this at a health food store, and is usually a combination of olive oil, garlic, mullien leaf, and other healing herbs such as calendula or st. john's wort.  Warm this until just skin temperatue (test it first!) and put a few drops in each ear.

  2. A chronic ear infection is most likely indicative of a chronic dis-ease in the dog's body.

For long-term correction of the problem you could consult with a veterinary homeopath or homeopatic veterinarian for treatment.

There is an excellent veterinary homeopath whom you could consult online.  Email me if you would like to get in touch with her.

  3. Chronic ear infection is usually indicative of food allergies, so it's important to find out what your dog is allergic to.  Have you had the exudate from your dog's ear tested to rule out mites, which are incredibly itchy and irritating?  In any event, eczema, mites, contact dermatitis, use tea tree oil.  You should find your dog has excellent results with it.
