I took a medical exam for life insurance and I'm over the "200" mark by 4 little mg. Now I'm worried they will put me in another bracket. I'm also worried as to why my cholesterol is high. My baby and I walk everywhere. We try to eat healthy with a few ice creams now and again. How do I lower it?

  1. Your best bet in this case is to eat more fibers - green salads and broccoli, things like that. (But use low-fat dressing on the salad, and no cheese sauce on the broccoli!) Also, more whole-grain cereals and breads.

In your case the "Cheerios diet" (As Seen on TV!) would probably work for you.

Fiber binds with both sugars and fats (cholesterol) and makes them harder to digest -- so they pass through your system instead of getting stored.  An increases in fiber in your diet may help reduce cholesterol AND keep you blood sugars regulated.

The side effect is that all that undigested fat and cholesterol has to go someplace, so be prepared for some rather "soft" bowel movements.
