My class is going to Ecuador in the summer, and I have a huge phobia of insects, spiders, and ticks. I'm hoping that I will get over the phobia but I'm not sure I could with the big bugs.

I'd like to know how big the insects, spiders, and ticks are there, how often you would run into them, and how many of them are venemous?

Any other information would be really appreciated.

Thanks [:

  1. i am so jealous that you get to go to the amazon. thats the whole point of going there.. to discover all these bizarre wierd creatures you dont get to see in your local.. if you cant get over the phobia of bugs then youre just going to the wrong place.. i deserve to go to the amazon more than you then.. when i go to japan i always go bug hunting because in canada there is absolutely nothing here.. canada's nature is very poor compared to japan's jungle..

so when you go to the amazon be prepared to face a lot of giant bugs.. very rich in life.. you will see them everywhere you go.. dont touch anything unless you are sure theyre safe to touch.. good luck and have fun!

  2. Well it all depends on what part of Ecuador you are going to.

If you guys are just sticking to the big cities (Guayaquil, Quito, Cuenca) then don't worry about the bugs.....they're just as bad there as they are in any big city in the states. I do have to warn you about the roaches, they are HUGE and they fly. I don't mind bugs, but the roaches scared the bajesus out of me.

If you guys go into the jungly parts like Naranjal, you will encounter some deadly spiders. Stay away from banana trees!

The best advice for the jungle areas: wear clothing that is comfortable and covers you, put some repellent on you, and carry a first aid kit.

    FUN TRAVELS!!
