I'm team captain to a club that me and a few kids are in. We are raising money because in spring we plan to plant trees. We want the best least expensive trees, that would grow well in Utah. We also need a way to tell how well they make oxygen.

  1. I would go with maples.  they are hard wearing and beautiful.  There are also PLENTY of kinds--for kinds that will do well in your area, google "Gardening Zone 6" for something you are looking for in a price range you can afford.  Japanese maples are priced well, and just beatiful.

Where are you going to plant them?  Maybe you can donate them to a local school or library--that way they can really be enjoyed and not just get lost in a sea of trees.

  2. I would plant apple trees. They have beautiful flowers and the fruit attracts a host of animals.

  3. maples,willows, pines, spruce,

  4. You might try contacting the US Forest Service at 507 25th St in Ogden, UT 84401 (sorry I don't have the website or phone #).  They would be sure to know what thrives in your growing zone & there may be funds available to help with the expense.  Also try the website of the National Garden Clubs at www.gardenclub.org.  They have a listing of native plants for the Rocky Mountain Region which include Big Tooth Maple, Rocky Mt Sugar Maple, Bristlecone & Ponderosa Pine trees.  Your local nursery should be able to advise you as to the oxygen output & provide a bulk price as well to help cut the costs. Good luck & happy planting! NCG member,
