  1. Ok number one: Do NOT tie a string to her foot. that will just make it worse and it will feel scared.

If you are planning on taking your cockatiel out I would recommend you taking it to a pet store or vet you know so they can clip there wings professionally. That way she cant fly away. If you are too scared of hawks eating her then stay inside. Im not sure what you are planning on doing. are you leaving her outside the cage or are you going to be with her? Because i dont think a hawk will get her hahah. But yea, just get her wings clipped and take her out but make sure your with her at all times. And if you just want her out and to walk around then buy those parrot leashes. There at the pet store. Some other people already recommend it above. Have fun!

  2. About 8 years ago a company in Virginia Beach invented the 'flight suit'. this is a safe way to take your bird outside. It looks like a one piece bathing suit and you hook the leash to it.

another option would be the harness that pet stores sell.  It is very important that you put it on your cockatiel properly.

If you tied a string to her foot she would either break her foot; or fly away anyway. Yes, she could get grabbed by a hawk or egret, or cat, or dog.

Cockatiels are very streamlined and they gain altitude very fast. They can get disoriented very easily.

I would suggest; by the sound of your question that you should not do anything without the consent of one of your parents. You are putting your birds' life at risk.  freezing is the least of your concerns.

  3. If you feel compelled to take the cockatiel outdoors then take it in it's cage or a small transport cage. Best place for it is indoors, that's what it is used to and it will be much happier there. The bird may find it extremely stressful to be outside. Any one tying string to a birds leg is a bit stupid, the bird's leg would probably break under such stress.

  4. OMG

you don't tie a string to it's leg

    get one of these
