  1. Don't worry about it.. My birds constantly lose those annoying small white feathers.

  2. Cockatiels naturally produce a fine white powder, which you can see if they shake or scratch. This is why a cockatiel should be allowed to bathe a few times a week. Place a shallow, yet wide, bowl of lukewarm water at his cage bottom for him, and see if he will take a bath. If not, you can also buy an empty misting/spray bottle for the purpose of spraying your cockatiel with warm water every other day or so--do not reuse a bottle that housed chemicals in order to mist your tiel!  Spray the mist upwards to let it fall like rain onto your tiel, do not spray your tiel directly in the face. You can also buy a shower perch for him, a perch that attaches by suction cups to your shower wall, and let him join you as you shower (be sure the temp is not hot). You may see more of this powder at times your cockatiel is going through a feather molt; at these times, he will look forward to his baths even more. =)

**The white powder may bother some people who are allergic to dust, but otherwise is not a health threat to either of you. You may notice him sneezing to clear his passages of this dust. If so, bathe him more frequently.

  3. Simply spray him with water daily once or twice a day to make him take a bath. With a spray bottle. Birds have very dry skin and need to be bathed like this to keep most of the dust they put off cleaned up.

  4. Do you bathe your bird? Most cockatiels have a sort of powder coating on their feathers, and they "molt" every now and then. It's like shedding for birds. Try putting a little bird bath in the bottom of the cage with just warm water, and see if that helps any. If it doesn't stop, check with your vet to make sure it's not a heath issue.
