My cockatiel layed an egg what do I do?

I only have one cockatiel and i noticed an egg in the cage.I was wondering when i should take it out or if I should even take it out?

  1. Female cockatiels are like hens.  They can lay eggs without them being fertilized or having a mate.  She will lay 4-6 eggs.  Leave them alone.  She will try sitting on them and mothering them.  When she realizes they are not going to hatch she will leave them alone.  Then you can take them out.  If you take it out now, she will keep laying them to make up for the ones taking away.  Just make sure she has high protein food and a cuttle bone in the cage.


  2. She'll probably lay 2-3 more over the next several days.  Wait until you're sure she's done laying, then take her out and distract her with some fresh fruit or something (mine loved grapes up until the day she died at age 18) and remove the eggs.

    She might be a little confused for a while, but she'll forget all about it until the next time she lays.

  3. If I was you I would call a local pet shop and ask them for advice they would know what to do with it.
