Question:

My cocker spaniel has a strange rash under her tail?

My 8 year old Cocker Spaniel has been biting at her tail constantly for a while now. When she finally let me look at it, i saw that underneath her tail is all raw skin, and darker than her normally pink skin.

My neighbors dog whom she usually plays with has recently gotten the same rash under his tail.

Just in case my description wasn't detailed enough, I've put pictures also so that you can help me figure out what is wrong.

Please only look at the pictures if you think you know what the problem might be, I do not mean to disturb anyone.

Also, if you know how to cure it, please tell!!!

Thanks in advance!

  1. The pictures were very helpful.

It definitely looks like either dry skin or allergies. It could also be a bacterial infection as you mentioned that another dog has got it after being in contact with yours. Your dog might have made it raw herself by biting at it because of the itchiness.

I would get her to the vet as it looks like she will need some anti-biotics and topical ointment.

    Hope that helps.

  2. It looks like dry skin or excma have you thought about maybe taking her to the vet to get some anti- biotics ?? if i were you talk to your vet good luck :D x

  3. time to consult your vet.  good possibility its allergies.  is she on a good flea control?  does she chew and/ or l**k at her paws?

  4. Might be a "hot spot". Take her to the vet for some topical medicine.
