My comments about the revival of Indo-Pak cricketing ties were distorted, says Sunil Gavaskar – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sunil-Manohar-Gavaskar-c91863, the former Indian captain, has expressed that his comments about the revival of Indo-Pak cricketing ties were distorted in the media and made it clear that he raised concerns only because of the Indian team’s hectic schedule.
India and Pakistan have not played any bilateral series since 2007-08, with relations between the two countries deteriorating after the Mumbai Terror Attacks in November, 2008. However, the two South Asian teams are all set to play a limited-overs series
in December in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, comprising of three ODIs and two T20 Internationals.
The former Test captain had shown a harsh reaction, not supporting India’s decision to play against Pakistan.
Gavaskar, 63, admitted that he had shown concerns but his statements were misinterpreted by different television channels and newspapers.
"My reaction to the proposed Pakistan team’s tour to India was not reported in its correct perspective. No doubt I had some reservations but only emotional part of my feelings was played up in the media," he said.
India and England are scheduled to play four Tests between November and December, before the latter returned to play the limited-overs series in January, while the hosts take on Pakistan in between. Gavaskar is of the view that the Men in Blue already have
a very busy schedule and the authorities could have postponed the series for the next season.
"My first reaction was that the time the players have between the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 series, it is not going to be there," the former captain expressed.
Being a resident of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755’s cooperation after the terror attacks.
He added, "I feel Pakistan was not cooperating in the Mumbai terror attacks probe. Being a Mumbaikar I feel what is the urgency of the tour when there is no co-operation from the other side."
Apart from the bilateral series, Pakistani players are expected to take part in the sixth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), which will be played in 2013. No player from the neighbouring nation has played the cash-rich league since 2008.
