My company is closing friday with 2 day notice, they said no vacation pay even though everyone earned it ?

Everyone here has been here the required time. At least a full year. The vacation is granted after the first of the year and when the owner came to us this past Wednesday, it was said there will be no vacation pay. Also it was said we can sign up for unemployment as of May 10 even though we are not officially closed. I tried that day but the on-line site would not accept my ss #. What, if any, is our recourse ?

he sure as heck wouldnt see my butt those last two days...that sucks.....I would definately talk to a lawyer....

I believe a lot depends on the size of the company. I worked for a small company that went bankrupt. They didn't even tell me, just stopped sending my paycheck. I worked remote so didn't know what was going on at the office.  I also found out that the $4000. in unpaid expense reimbursements wasn't going to be paid.  I was considered an unsecured creditor.  There wasn't any money left to claim so I was left jobless, and in debt.   Yours isn't a good situation, but if it's a small company, your best option is just to get busy and find another job.  I got a temporary job through a temp agency. I was able to get 2nd shift (3:00 pm 011:00pm) so I had the normal workday to look for permanent employment.  Good Luck to you.  It's not the end of the world.  In my case, the next job was much better than the one I lost.
