Question:

My company isn't green.?

My company just flew 100 investors to the Alps where they listened to a talk 'Confronting the Climate -Energy Challenge'. I'm angry at this hypocrisy. The majority of the world's scientists agree climate change is happenening, so their decision is illogical and isn't based on ignorance, more indifference. I find it difficult to work hard (which I do) for a company which isn't acting responsibly on climate change. Part of my job involves international travel, which I try to do by train where possible which my colleagues find amusing.

What can I do when the company I work for is at odds with my own personal moral code. I don't believe quitting is the answer as I think change happens from within. This isn't just a personal opinion: climate change is a fact. What should I do?

  1. climate change is affecting the world more than cancer so what you have thought is a good idea and to go green in your office you can cut down the usage of paper unless you really need it

P.S  ask me if you want to know more

  2. I agree with Captain.

  3. To my friends who posted earlier:

Climate Change is a reality. See the abrupt changes in the pattern of extreme climate events happening during this decade combined with the fact that the ten warmest years in the recorded history of the earth have all ocured after 1990.

Now thinking that Climate Change is sth that will just go away is the worst that we can do.....

Its not as easy to fix as Ozone layer depletin that we fixed by replacing CFCs with other cleaner chemicals ... it is far more widespread, it will be nearly impossible to stop the trend from continuing but we still need to make the effort...

Maybe we could enable one more generation to survive on the planet before all goes down.

  4. Sure. "climate change" IS a fact.

It is a natural cycle that has been ongoing for millions of years.

Here is truth about global warming:

Global warming is one-half of the climatic cycle of warming and cooling.

The earth's mean temperature cycles around the freezing point of water.

This is a completely natural phenomenon which has been going on since there has been water on this planet. It is driven by the sun.

Our planet is currently emerging from a 'mini ice age', so is

becoming warmer and may return to the point at which Greenland is again usable as farmland (as it has been in recorded history).

As the polar ice caps decrease, the amount of fresh water mixing with oceanic water will slow and perhaps stop the thermohaline cycle (the oceanic heat 'conveyor' which, among other things, keeps the U.S. east coast warm).

When this cycle slows/stops, the planet will cool again and begin to enter another ice age.

It's been happening for millions of years.

The worrisome and brutal predictions of drastic climate effects are based on computer models, NOT CLIMATE HISTORY.

As you probably know, computer models are not the most reliable of sources, especially when used to 'predict' chaotic systems such as weather.

    Global warming/cooling, AKA 'climate change':

    Humans did not cause it.

    Humans cannot stop it.

  5. don't worry my company is beige.

    nothing worse than beige.

  6. i am sorry but i totally disagree with you, climate change should be the last thing we think about. people are starving in africa, ethnic cleansing is rife, tensions in the middle east, war on terror. talking about hypocirisy... it is hypocrite people who try to make themselves feel better by buying  green instead of donating to abused children, starved children etc...

i think we should all wake up and think that  global warming is just another "hot topic of the moment" like the ozone layer was in the 90s

  7. Climate change is a lot of bull.

  8. If you want their salary, you should do what your employer wants you to do.  If you're not happy there you should find another job which you find more satisfying.

A lot of people don't believe that humans do have much effect on the climate and that's not going to change.  You work for a company, not a charity and companies primarily exist to make money for their shareholders - the capitalist system isn't perfect, but it seems to work a lot better than other types of economies.

It sounds like you would be happier working for the government or a not for profit organisation as their management might be much more receptive to your ideas.

  9. keep your morals and beliefs because in the end their all you've got. Stand for what you believe in because their the only things you can count on.

  10. maybe you should try and change your company for the better. you could try suggesting that your company uses more video conferences instead of flying people all over the world.

i also disagree that flying investors to a talk is wasteful. if even a few of those investors came out of the talk wanting to solve this issue they could achieve, with there capitol, more then the average person ever could.
